How We Got Here
The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic radically altered so much of life. The experience of therapy was no exception. At the time, one challenge we faced was how to recreate, through technology, a deeply personal and interpersonal experience that most often happened in private in-person spaces. In some ways, that was achieved. In other ways, we lost some of the components that created the “magic” of therapy.
As with many crises, the chaos of the pandemic offered an opportunity to rethink what therapy could be. It challenged us to consider how the environmental components help to facilitate growth and healing.
In our consideration, we started reflecting on aspects surrounding the work of therapy. We found ourselves weighing what we believe about our role in public health crises, the importance of movement in healing work, the profound impact of nature in regulating emotions and nervous systems, and how best to provide therapeutic spaces for those of us who are neurodivergent.
The result of that contemplation is WTW in the Woods.
About the Property – A Constant Work in Progress
One of our constant beliefs is that we are all a work in progress. Our location is no different. Situated on our home property, the Wilder Therapy office is part of a constantly changing playground of projects and experiments. It is also part of the larger ecosystem of a pine forest. Some areas of the property are manicured (like the office and most of the outdoor therapy spaces). Others are in transition (like the trails and land around the main two acres). The bulk of the 28-acre property is and will remain undeveloped forest. We share the space with many living creatures. It is likely that you will see or hear flocks of turkeys and groups of deer. You definitely will see entire populations of birds, dragonflies, and other insects.
It is important to know that we will continue to offer teletherapy services through our virtual office suite and by phone. The in-person location is offered IN ADDITION to virtual services for clients we work with on a long-term basis.
As a client, you have access to both and can switch between them as best fits your life. For example, you can come and see us at the physical location through the summer months and then move to virtual for the winter. You could come to see us in person for a period of time to focus on specific EMDR work. You can visit the physical location occasionally when time allows and see us virtually most other sessions. Our goal is to create flexibility for you to create the therapeutic experience as you need it.

We are pleased to welcome you to a unique approach to therapy at our West Greenwich location. Officially opened in 2023, Wilder Therapy & Wellness in the Woods welcomes those our long-term, established clients who are seeking an in-person therapy experience.
WTW in the Woods blends traditional therapeutic approaches with the healing power of nature to create an experience that's truly holistic, going beyond the four walls of a typical therapy room.
Our in-person location provides a blend of therapy spaces, ranging from the traditional office settings to outdoor therapy spaces. Now, you will not be confined to just sitting in a chair across from another human in a chair. During a therapy hour, you may have the option to change spots, move around, or sit side by side (and comfortably avoid eye contact if you need to). Therapy can take place in ways that help lower anxiety and soothe your nervous system, including while walking along paths or strolling through the garden looking at plants.
